Founder’s Background

Kaapstad.org was founded by Jean-Pierre Ardinois, originally from Gent, Belgium. His connection with South Africa began in 1994 when he visited the country for the first time, an experience that sparked both a deep love for the region and a lifelong passion for travel!

Before relocating permanently to South Africa in 2002, Jean-Pierre was actively involved in various cultural, economic, and social exchange programs in Belgium. He collaborated with NGOs and worked closely with the South African Embassy in Brussels, providing tourist information and promoting travel to the region.

During his years of travelling between Belgium, South Africa, and neighboring SADC countries, Jean-Pierre explored the region extensively and even published a travel manual in 1996 documenting his adventures. After gaining experience at several large travel agencies, he became disillusioned with their impersonal service and saw the need for a more guest-focused approach. What began as a personal passion for travel and exploration evolved into Kaapstad.org—built on the belief that every guest deserves exceptional service and accurate, reliable information.
