Recreation and adventure
- Swimming, rowing and fishing on
Wilderness Beach, the touw river and some of the lakes.
- Water-ski is forbidden on the Island Lake
and Swarvlei.
- Pedal boats and canoes can be rented.
- A network of walking trails.
- Bird observation in one of the bird hides
along the Langvlei and Rondevlei.
Interesting tips:
- Bring your swimming gear with, head, sun
lotion, walking shoes, binoculars and a handbook about fauna and flora. If
you go walk, please take enough water with you.

Climate
A mild coastal climate with possible
rainfall all your round. September and October have usually the highest
rainfall. The region has sunny days during 50 or 60% of the year.
Travelling:
The reserve is situated along the N2, 15 km
from George, 315 km from Port Elizabeth and 415 km from Cape Town. The nearest
airport is George.
Opening
times:
Reception hours: 08:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 17:00
December/January and during school holidays: 07:00 – 20:00
Note:
- Pets are not allowed in the national park.
- Fire weapons have to be reported at reception and will be
sealed. The seal will be removed once leaving the reserve.
- Medical assistance, chemist, garage, petrol, post office and
police can be found in Wilderness Village.
