A Living Desert Tour is a
unique 4x4 adventure which specializes in bringing the desert to life while
sharing the awesome beauty of the Namib Desert . The coastal dune belt may
seem barren and lifeless to many people, but in fact it is alive with a
fascinating variety of little desert adapted animals, which are able to
survive on the life-giving fog which consistently rolls in from the cold
Atlantic Ocean.
Come see the Dancing White Lady Spider cartwheel 44 turns
per second down a dune to escape the enemy. Admire the transparent Namib
Dune Gecko with webbed feet that are equivalent to snow shoes. Learn about
the different beetles and insects and how they survive in the dune desert.
Follow in the tracks of a legless Lizard, observe Sand Diving Lizards dancing
on the hot sand, Sidewinder Snakes, Desert Chameleons and many more
fascinating creatures. Learn about the geology, structure and formation of
the desert, and admire the vast and beautiful landscapes while enjoying a
scenic dune drive combined with fun and adrenalin.
GUIDED 4X4 TOURS IN THE DESERT
Half day tour
This Desert tour concentrates on exploring the local dune
belt between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. We take special care not to damage
the gravel plains and cause any unnecessary damage to the dune eco-system.
The gravel plains are protected and home to the nesting Damara Terns, which
are endemic to this area. Conservation, geological structure and the reason
why we have a Desert will be discussed in detail en route. Plenty of time is
available for frequent stops to take photos of the dunes and the surrounding
environment.
Half day welwitschia Moon landscape tour
On this welwitschia and moon landscape tour we explore the
rocky granite valley, known as “The Moon Valley”, approximately 30km east of
Swakopmund. This amazing landscape was carved out by the Swakop River over
time and offers vast ever-changing landscapes.
Larger mammals such as Springbok, Klipspringer,
Baboons, Jackals and Ostrich can also be encountered during the tour, but
sightings depend on the availability of food, which in turn is dependant on
the amount of rainfall.
