The Bazaruto Archipelago consists of five pristine islands, the closest being 10 km offshore of Vilanculos. Vilanculos Beach Lodge is the perfect base from which to explore the Bazaruto Archipelago.

Vilanculos Beach Lodge is 5km north of Vilanculos village and 10km from Vilanculos Airport. The grounds extend right down to the beach and boast stunning views of the Bazaruto Archipelago and the Saint Sebastian peninsula.

Accommodation

Privately appointed chalets constructed on ironwood stilts with "majeka" (local thatch) roofs and beautiful mahogany floors. All chalets have en-suite bathrooms with showers (no baths), overhead fans, mosquito nets and room safes. The chalets are set amidst lush indigenous gardens with private balconies - most with sea-views - allowing guests to truly relax and soak up the idyllic atmosphere.

The chalets offer deluxe, luxury and standard accommodation in one or two bedroom units. The two bedroom units are ideal for families.

Lodge facilities

The beautifully constructed restaurant and bar also includes a terrace, a lounge area, and reception. There are two swimming pools with a gazebo and outdoor barbecue area. The "Nao Sapatos" (No Shoes!) beach bar is a popular venue for beach parties and sundowners.

On the beach you will find comfortable loungers under thatched umbrellas and you can enjoy water sports or volley-ball. It is a safe swimming beach and ideal for children.

An exciting range of off-site activities are available, including dhow trips to the islands, fishing charters, and diving. Details can be obtained from the Lodge reception.

Natural Heritage

Most of the Archipelago has been declared a National Park and sustains a diverse range of flora and fauna. Visitors are often rewarded with sightings of dolphins, turtles, rays, whales (at the start of summer) and, if you are lucky, a dugong.

Over 150 bird species have been identified in the area, including several rare species. The varied habitats make this a birdwatcher's paradise. The sand banks are a haven for pelicans and wading birds such as flamingos.

The Bazaruto National Park is protected by WWF and Park Fees are payable:
