Somerset West Country Golf Club -
tradition and white squirrels.
The Somerset West Golf Club is only one of the few
Country Clubs in South Africa, found in 1908 and originally named Paardevlei Golf Club
with 9 holes.
Although Somerset West does not fall within the top
quality clubs in the Cape, it is an interesting course. It makes demands of
the sport as such, and you have to work quite hard to hit the greens, which
are not exactly big. Also unusual are the white squirrels which charge
across the course everywhere. The demanding
golfer is put off by the fact that he has to cross the railway line twice
and the road once. But the price/performance ratio is correct.
