Royal Cape- the oldest
course in South Africa
The Cape Golf Club is
established in 1885 by Sir
Henry D'Oyley Torrens. The course was the only golf address during the
following 20 years! The Royal title was granted in 1910 by the Duke of Connaught.
Logically is was the first club in South Africa with a royal title.
Royal Cape is the oldest golf club in South Africa.
Dozens of South African championships have been played on its open park-like
greens. Lots of trees and even more water pose a challenge here.
Gary Player once played here all four rounds below 70 and thus set the mark
for all subsequent pros! The Royal Cape is in the arms
of rich history and tradition, bordering the Cape Flats where the
south-easterly wind can be feared. Even with the many wind breaking trees,
the course still needs your best golfing skills.
