Cathbert Country Inn is only a
short 40-minute drive from Cape Town, and is at the center of the Paarl,
Stellenbosch and Franschhoek wine routes. The property is at the foothills
of the Simonsberg Mountains, immediately beneath Kanonkop. Surrounded on
three sides by prestigious wine estates (Rupert & Rothschild. Plaisir De
Merle and Vrede En Lust), the views of Mountains and Vineyards are
breathtaking. Cathbert is for those who seek peace & quiet, away from towns
and cities. Rooms
There are
eight individually decorated suites on the property. Each has its own
personality and design with either a fireplace or under floor heating, all
with en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, private verandas and secluded
gardens. Each room is named after an indigenous South African flower. The
restaurant, with its wide verandahs, and the pool area are at the center of
things, with breakfasts and dinners most often taking place outdoors in the
season. Wine and

Morley’s are naturally hospitable and enjoy this role. Ann is the cook, and
Robert the Maitre D’ and together they run a slick, homely restaurant,
making you feel that you’re eating in a five star establishment with the
atmosphere of your parent’s home. Ann’s food is highly acclaimed by guests,
and is clearly the result of her passion for cooking. The wine menu is
impressively documented, with Robert selecting wines from only the
surrounding farms, which happen to produce some of the best reds in the
country. The four-course menu is set and since there are no choices, be sure
to convey your eating preferences on checking-in.
Dinner is served every night
except Saturday and Sunday. However Ann and Robert will be more than happy
to recommend some fine restaurants in the surrounding winelands, or they
will order you a delicious cheese & deli platter from the nearby fromagerie
to enjoy in your room. Cathbert is a member of The Good Cooks And Their
Country Houses group, whose focus is on food. |
