The Bushmen arrived about 2000 years ago. They left us rock paintings with rhino and antilopes. Bantu tribes settled during the Iron Age and allowed their cattle to graze the grasslands of the Waterberg. As result of the grazing, the grassland reduced severely which caused a tse-tse fly epidemy. Only people who moved to higher ground, 600 meter above sea level, were spared as the tse-tse fly can not survive on that altitude.
Then the Nguni arrived at around 1300. They brought new technologies such as the building of Iron Age forts which remains can still be seen today.
