Pongola Game
Reserve
The Pongola Game Reserve was proclaimed in 1894 and is
the second oldest nature reserve in the world. The reserve is the home for
over 350 bird species, giraffe, rhino, wildebeest, zebra, impala, buffalo,
leopard and crocodile. A herd of elephants was re-introduced exactly 100
years after the shooting of the last elephant in the region.

Het Pongola Game Reserve is a
cooperative project between land owners and the local community with to
protect the ecological diversity in the region.

Guests staying at the White Elephant
have easy access by road to the famous Hluhluwe-Umfolozi reserve, Mkuze, Itala, Ndumu, Tembe
and the Greater St.
Lucia Wetland National Park.
