Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Natuur Reservaat
Both reserves joined one another in 1989 and belong to
the oldest in the country. In the 96 000 ha reserve live the Big 5 (lion,
rhino, buffalo, leopard and elephant). A conservation project to protect the
rhino is in the meantime world famous. The rhino population is now a days
over 2 000 animal (white and black rhino). |

St. Lucia Nationaal Park
Popular holiday destination in the most south-eastern
part of KwaZulu-Natal. Lakes, forest dunes, swamps, palm forest, mangrove
forest and beautiful beaches form this World Heritage Site. The 60 km long
'inner sea' lies parallel with the coastline and is cut of from the ocean by
dunes. A canal connects the estuary with the Indian Ocean. Salt and sweet
water form a unique habitat for many bird species, hippos, pelicans, Nile
crocodiles and flamingos. The Big 5 occur in the reserve as well. |

beaches, dunes and dune forests. The region is offering the best diving
conditions in South Africa. Lake Sibiya is South Africa's largest sweet
water lake and is part of the Greater St Lucia
