Mossel Bay,
halfway Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. This harbour city is the
beginning of the Garden Route in the west. Mossel Bay is in 1498 discovered
by the Portugueze sailor Bartholomeus Diaz. The major tourist attraction is
the Diaz Museum Complex where a replica can be seen from the ship once used
to find a seaway between Europe and India. Here is also the first post
office in south Africa, the 'Post Office Tree.
Mossel Bay is known for its prestine
sand beaches and according to the Guiness Book of Records, after Hawai, the
most mild climate in the world year through. |

Outdshoorn, with no doubt the ostrich capital in the world. This
peaceful town is situated in the northern section of the Garden Route, in
the Little Karoo which is a semi desert.
The ostrich feather
industry knew a boom at the end of the 19th century. This can today still be
seen in the so called 'Ostrich Baron Manor houses (Fosters Manor Guest
House).
The biggest
tourist attractions are the ostrich farms and the Cango Caves. The Cango
Caves are one of the largest limestone caves in the southern hemisphere.
Other tourist attractions are the Cango Cheetah and Crocodile Ranch where
visitors can see from close by the largest cats on our planet (the only
white tigers on the African continent) and even make a plunge in a pool with
crocodiles. |

Plettenberg Bay
is according to some the juwel of the Garden Route. This town
is a dream for each holiday maker and eco tourist.
Typical for the region is the Outeniqua
Forest, the last piece of Gondwana forest in Southern Africa. In the forest
are huge trees, an example is the 'Big Tree' a giant in the Tsitisikamma
National Park.
A visit to the Tsitsikamma National Park is an absolute must when visiting
the region. Picturesque beaches, swimming in the Indian Ocean and walking
over a cable suspense bridge at the Storms River Mouth.
Not far from the National Park are the
prestine beaches from Nature's Valley and the highest commercial operated
bungee in the world. |

Knysna
another pearl in the crown from the beautiful Garden Route. This popular
town is on the banks of the Knysna Lagoon and is known for beautiful
beaches, the Outeniqua Forest and its large lagoon.
Visitors can easily stay for at least tree
days to explore the region. Major tourist attractions are the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe
steam train, the Garden of Eden in the Outeniqua Forest, the Knysna Heads at
the entrance of the Lagoon, the Featherbed Private Nature Reserve, a
historical goldmine site in the forest, the King George VII Tree and not to
forget the Knysna Waterfront with its many restaurants and shops. |

George
is a relatively large city which can be used as base to explore the Garden
Route and the Little Karoo. The city is a large business centre in the
region and that can be seen at the many shops and restaurants. |

Wilderness
is a beautiful town east of George. At the one side of town is the Indian
Ocean and at the other the Wilderness National Park with its 5 lakes, rivers
and 18 km long beach. Visitors choose Wilderness for its unique natural
beauty and tranquillity. |

Tsitsikamma
sub-tropical rainforest, onspoiled beaches and the Tsitsikamma National
Park. The most beautiful beaches can be found at Nature's Valley and in the
national park. Major tourist attraction is the suspension bridge over
Stormsriver Mouth, the 'Big Tree', a forest giant and the Stormsriver
Bridge. |
