The Cavern is a holiday resort offering
Drakensberg accommodation in the KwaZulu Natal region. Named after
the "Cannibal Cavern", it is situated on 3000 hectares of private mountain
reserve adjacent to the Ampitheatre Royal Natal National Park - a World
Heritage Site.
The Cavern is set in a secluded valley beneath the massive sandstone
cliffs of the Northern Drakensberg. The thatch accommodation and facilities
blend beautifully with the natural surroundings of the area. The Cavern is
home to numerous Bushman paintings, 213 species of birds, 150 species of
trees and numerous wild animals.
The Cavern offers daily guided hikes to such wonderful destinations as
Thonsela Cave, Cannibal Cavern, Echo Cave and Sungubala amongst others. For
the more energetic, walks are organized to the Tugela Gorge and to the top
of the Amphitheatre. The Cavern offers an extensive range of sport and
recreational facilities, from guided walks to horse trails through splendid
scenery, jeep trips and trout fishing in five well stocked dams.
 Standaard kamers: our Standard accommodation is set in lush garden
landscapes with a vibrant mix of indigenous planting, filled with the sounds
of birdlife.
Each room has a patio to soak up the sun and enjoy the mountain splendour.
Superior kamers: our finely appointed Superior accommodation has
magnificent views of the surrounding mountains with private patios to soak
up the sun, listen to the sounds of forest streams and relax in our mountain
wilderness. These rooms have a bar fridge and television.
Superior and Honeymoon suites: With superior finishings and
fittings our superior and honeymoon suites are nests of tranquility each
with its own private fireplace, patio, TV and barfridge. They have
magnificent views of the surrounding mountains with the sounds of waterfalls
and streams rushing through indigenous forests.
Dining
in the Drakensberg
Our Friendly staff welcome you to
our dining room where a Table d' hote menu offers a wide choice at every
meal. All meals are inclusive. Children eat seperately and have the chance
to meet new friend.
Weekly functions include 'Lunch in the Sun', 'Boma Buffets' and 'Potjie
Pots'. A range of beers and a selection of South African wines are available.
The Emaweni Cave bar is fully licenced, and operates between 12h00 & 23h00.
